First I start with a 3-ring binder. Mine came from the $1 store.
In the front pockets I keep business cards, directions I've printed out, etc.
I keep a zippered pencil bag with pens, highlighters and white-out inside. I am NOT going looking for all that when it's time to add something to the calendar. Better to just keep it all together!

On the first page is EMERGENCY info! I blanked out all the super personal info for the pics here, because I know you crazy people want to stalk me. And I'm just not all about waking up to camera flashes and people cheering my name. So, you can make this page to suit your own needs. I've set it up for my daughters.
The next page is Trinity's Personal Info! (I also had one for Zoe when she was here) It works well to have a page for each child since their information is all different. It's easy to just flip to her page and know right away what her meds are, her insurance and doctor info, what she can't have, etc.
The next page is the calendar for the current month. Mine below is mostly written in a way where only I can understand most of the time. But, it's just for me so that's fine.
I keep the next month or two underneath for making appointments further ahead.

This next page is for Trinity. It's her weekly schedule. (Not a whole lot going on this week, thankfully! But sometimes this page is full!) I do these several weeks in advance, filling in the events that are regular or already scheduled. When something new comes up I just handwrite it in.

This may seem a bit redundant for most, since all of her activities are on her weekly schedule, but Trinity really likes looking at her class calendar, so we made a page for that too. Again, if Zoe was here she'd have her own pages as well.

In the back I have pages for addresses and phone numbers. Yes, that is my public-bathroom-green-colored bathrobe. What's it to ya?! It's warm, ok???!!!

And that's that! As you can see, everything is in sheet protectors, so as to not get wrinkled, torn out or splattered with pancake syrup.
If you are a menu planner, you could include that in your notebook as well. Also you could have a page for your blogging schedule, scout schedule, little league calendar, restaurant coupons, whatever! The whole point is to make it work for YOU.
Trinity is my little calendar watcher. One of her obsessions. So, now, whenever she starts asking me, "How many days til Princess Club?" I just say, "Go look in the book!" EASY!
So, let's all give a toast to an anal retentive, ahem, I mean ORGANIZED New Year!

12 of the smartest people I know said...:
oh this - I need to do - love this idea - I have a stack of papers that I have to look though and can never find what i need - but I do have a calendar - updated months in advance - I can't live w/o that!
My mom tells me that changing the day on the calendar was one of my favorite "chores" as a child - I enjoyed it so much, in fact, I would often remove days at a time! (So it might BE March, but OUR calendar said MAY 3rd!) Plus, I got an 'allowance' for it...parents are suckers!! LoL.
Thanks for posting this, and have a great week!
This is a great idea. When I have kids I want to have something similar.
Great idea! You are organized! I have to have a paper calendar even though I keep track of everything on my computer. I still print out a month's view two months at a time.
That sounds like a good idea... I would stay on top of it like I did Luke's school papers that I started in a binder at the begining of Kindergarten.. It is full of September and that is it... I suck at that type of stuff.
Very organized! Great tips.
That is a great system! The important thing in staying organized is finding the system that works for you! Looks like you have and you are passing the gift of organization onto your daughter! Awesome...
wow, great job organizing. you are ON IT! hey, come & orgainze my life...i would be so ON IT then...ha ha...yeah, i keep a bigger organizer/calendar so i think that's been helping me a lot as well. it pays to organize!!! =]
Wow! This is inspiring!!!
i need to do this so bad lol.. maybe i can get myself together and do that soon!! thanks for all the tips!!
Great tip! I love my binder with info. on all my kids' school stuff and activities, but I need to add emergency stuff. It would be so convenient to have doctor numbers in there!
You amaze me and I aspire to be you. Plus that particular shade of black is most becoming...is it #1, #2, #3,....
