Aloha Friday!

Aloha! Hope everyone had a great week!

So, we are really in the swing of Summer now - 4th of July is just next weekend! I know a lot of people really enjoy Summer, and of course I do in my own way (Pretty much I'm just happy to not be cold for a little while). But, I'm all about Summer just hurrying herself right up so we can have Autumn - my favorite time of year!

In the meantime, I'm trying really hard to find things to do to keep us busy. Well, not me! I'm busy enough. Really I mean to keep Trinity busy. And also Zoe now that she will be coming home for the day on the weekends.

Unfortunately, my funds are very limited - and I know many, many families are in the same situation. It's rough out there right now!

And even if you're not totally broke, I know all Moms love the idea of something fun to do with the kids that is cheap! (It's almost a thrill in itself, isn't it?)

So I'm turning to all you great bloggy Moms (And Dads! And Aunt/Uncles! And people who like kids/Or don't but have an idea to share!) out there to give me some ideas - and check the comments for some ideas for yourself!

What is your favorite CHEAP family Summertime activity?

Can't wait to see what ideas you have to share!

This is such a great question!

What about a day at a metropark that has a lake, where you pay a small fee to park and take a little packed lunch picnic?

Joy's idea is a great one!

Running after the ice cream man and sitting in the shade eating is a fun cheap activity, to me.

If you live by the beach, you can generally get into there pretty cheaply. It's a great way to cool off!

I always scrounged up the money for a zoo pass for the year. It's so easy to pack some sandwiches, water & sunblock & just be able to spend the day at the zoo.

I love the beach and theme park/zoo/aquariums. Also, going to the park to walk or bike.

We used to have a cookout with family and then drive to a location, park, set up chairs and watch the fireworks. No money spent:-)

When my son was younger we would go to the library. It was cool, they had great summer reading programs and we love to read.

How about camping out in the backyard and some service projects. I think there are always local organizations or Children's Hospitals that need help and kids can learn alot from serving others.
The fun thing about camping in the backyard is after the kids go to sleep you can get in bed!

I am in the same boat i have kids how seem to always be extremely bored and little to know budget for entertainment so we spend alot of evenings at the park and the library out here has programs on weds. afternoons this week was thumbprint art my kids really enjoyed it.

There's an outdoor mall a couple miles away from us that has a fountain for the kids to play in. It has the water that shoots up from the ground, and some turtles that squirt water as well. My son loves to go there, and as long as I stay away from the shops it doesn't cost me any money.

We also go to the zoo. A LOT. It's about $100 for a pass for the whole family, and it's totally worth it. It gives us access to two different zoos, and I pack food and drinks so we don't spend any more money.

And of course, there's the beach. My husband and son are total beach bums, but I'm not really into bodies of water that contain living creatures. I hang out on the shore while they play, in the shade of course because I don't dare get a tan!

We go to the park. Lots of things to do there, people to see, and walking/running galore for the entire family.

I agree that beaches, parks and picnics are some of the best forms of cheap or free summer activities. Also, not sure what's available where you are, but my city offers a series of free summer concerts in various parks throughout the city. Different types of music. They also have a free "summer film festival" where one night a week they show a family friendly movie for free. Used to have it outside on the side of an old warehouse. Nearby towns sometimes have their own mini-festivals or events that will usually include a parade, fireworks, and kid activities. All free or cheap. Worth looking around :)

. . . oh and I almost forgot to mention libraries. They often have summer family activities planned.

We have a free splash pad here, that is where I hope to spend lots of time this summer.

We love to go down to Merchant Square (in Colonial Williamsburg, VA), get THE best sandwiches in the world at the Cheese Shop, sit outside under the canopy of all the beautiful trees and people watch!

Camping in our backyard complete with tent. We also enjoy impromptu picnics in the park. We try to find a different park every time we go. Aloha!

I live by the lake so just to go sit on the bluff in a swing and watch the boats coming in and out of the channel is so relaxing.

The library is always a great idea.
I live in the country literally right next to a national forest so we go hiking or play in the creek. We also have a pond that the kids like to play in and camp out by. There were also a lot of indians here so we like to hunt for arrow heads.
When we lived in the city we used to go to museums. Some have free admition. Or have picnics at the park.

We really like to go for walks at a local reserve that has lots of paths and trails. We take the dogs and go walking for hours. It's free and we always have fun.

Amy said...

We love running up and down the golf course, going swimming, and playing with chalk.

Museums are so fun! Some are even free. Some movie theaters have kids movie packages for the summer that really reasonable. Picnics of course are great.

It would have to be playing in the sprinklers in the back yard.
